This Celebrations Webquest is for a Stage 1, Year 2 class (Board of studies, NSW). KLA: H.S.I.E (Board of Studies, NSW). Links to other KLA’s: English, Creative Arts and Science and technology (Board of Studies, NSW). The Outcomes and Indicators to be met are: CUS1.3, CUS1.4, CCS1.1 (Board of Studies, NSW). This Webquest constitutes one lesson, as a part of an 8-10 week unit of work on Celebrations. This Webquest lesson should take 45 minutes to complete. The Calendar will need to be printed off by the Teacher prior to the lesson. You should allow 5 minutes for the topic explanation, 10 minutes for group and group role allocation, 5 minutes for brainstorming, 15 minutes for research and finishing of the Celebrations Chart, and 10 minutes for the transfer of information to the Calendar and Events Book. It is left up to your discretion how you would like to do the Calendar and Events Book. For my lesson, I used a Word Template Calendar, printed it out and the students’ wrote the events on the specific dates. The Events Book was an A4 book, each group had a page and they stuck their Celebrations Charts in to complete the assignment. Additionally, you could do this Webquest over two lessons. It does cover a lot of areas and could be split up so that they are given more time on each section.
